HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Holland Township man being sought for the Macatawa Bank robbery this past Tuesday shot himself in the head, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies and detectives conducted a traffic stop at 523 Butternut Drive at the Leisure Estates Mobile Home Park in regards to the bank robbery investigation when they found the man along with three other occupants in the vehicle.

Information in the investigation revealed the man to be a 20-year-old Holland Township resident and deputies found him inside the vehicle with three other people. The other three complied with police orders, but the fourth one in the back seat did not and pulled out a gun to shoot himself in the head.

According to police, medical aid helped the suspect and he was transported to the Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids where he remained listed in critical condition Thursday night.

No other shots were fired and no other injuries were reported.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department announced Thursday night that further investigation left investigators confident that the victim of the self-inflicted gunshot wound was indeed the individual who robbed the Macatawa Bank.
