KALAMAZOO, Mich.- A Kalamazoo officer was struck by a vehicle after investigating an unrelated matter at the Red Roof Inn on Wednesday.

According to the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team, officers from the Community Outreach Problem Solving Division were following up on an investigation at 3701 East Cork Street when three subjects exited the hotel lobby reeking of marijuana.

The officers recognized one of the subjects as a 22-year-old Kalamazoo man who is currently wanted for an outstanding warrant. After the officers finally revealed themselves to be police, the wanted subject jumped into a vehicle and sped away, hitting one of the officers.

The vehicle continued to drive recklessly as Kalamazoo Public Safety officers attempted to stop the vehicle going Westbound on East Cork Street. The vehicle was located in the 700 block of Keenway Circle where the other subjects attempted to retrieve the car.

A K-9 search was conducted but the suspect has not been found.

Charges for the suspect include felonious assault, fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, and reckless driving.

The Kalamazoo officer had minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
