(WEST MICHIGAN) — After a sunny and dry Tuesday, rain will move back into West Michigan today. Rain will start light in the early afternoon and become heavier through the evening hours. A potent low pressure system will slowly move into the Great Lakes region. This system will funnel warm and moist gulf air into West Michigan fueling thunderstorms on Thursday.
Flood watches have been issued in advance, as the ground is already saturated and river banks already spilling over. Forecast models show 2 to 4 inches of rain will be possible from Wednesday through Friday. Our model shows that some areas could see up to 5 inches of rain. Totals will be dependent on where storms develop and how they move Thursday and Friday. Most of the rain should move out by Friday morning however temperatures behind the cold front will drop quickly and some areas of a light rain/snow mix will be possible. Cooler temperatures stick around for the weekend but warm back to around average by the beginning of next week.
