GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A man fell from a staircase at the B.O.B. early Sunday morning and died.

21-year-old Zachary Bunting of Grand Ledge was out with friends when he decided to slide down the railing of the stairway near the front of the building just after 2 a.m.

According to Grand Rapids Police, the man fell down four flights of stairs to the bottom of the open stairwell, or about 40 feet.

First responders attempted to rescue him, but he died at the scene.

Back in 2009, another man also fell down a staircase at the B.O.B. 21-year-old Tylor Usher of Dorr had been celebrating his 21st birthday with friends when he fell down 30 feet. He died two days later from a head injury he received after the impact of the fall.

Bunting was a student at Central Michigan University and played for the school’s club hockey team.

Police are still investigating if alcohol was a factor in the incident Sunday morning.

An autopsy for Bunting is scheduled for Monday morning.

Sunday afternoon, a statement was released from The Gilmore Collection, who owns and operates the B.O.B.

” This is truly a tragedy and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family and friends..”
