ALBION, Mich.- Albion College was placed on lockdown as officers search for an armed suspect who intentionally set fires in multiple locations during a domestic incident on Saturday.
According to Albion Public Safety, they responded to 311 Burr Oak Street for a reported domestic assault and a suspect armed with a gun at 9:45 p.m. Once officers arrived at the scene, smoke was coming from the house and both ADPS off duty officers and Sheridan Township were called to help with the incident.
The ADPS Emergency Response Team then surrounded the house with bulletproof vests under their fire gear and searched the house while armed with rifles. “It was believed that nobody could still be alive inside the house due to heavy smoke”, said Chief Scott Kipp.
Sheridan Township Firefighters were sent into the house, while ADPS officers and Calhoun County Deputies stood outside the home just in case the suspect decided to shoot at the firefighters when putting the fire out. According to ADPS, the fire was put out, but the suspect was not found.
Dispatch then called ADPS to report a suspicious suspect at the Citgo Station off Michigan Avenue and Superior Street. Deputies went to investigate and located the suspect.
The suspect was taken into custody and ADPS is continuing to investigate the incident. The State Fire Marshall’s office was also called to help with the investigation.
