GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — One man is dead after a motorcycle accident early this morning.

Joseph Herman Wilson of Grand Rapids crashed into a cement wall while driving on southbound  US-131 near I-196.

The 52-year-old was then thrown from his motorcycle and flew over the wall.

He came to a rest about 40 feet below the freeway near Turner Avenue Northwest, according to the Grand Rapids Police.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say he was wearing a helmet, but it flew off after he crashed into wall.

Wilson was driving a 1976 Honda motorcycle, which came to a rest in the middle of US-131 after the crash.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Michigan State Police were also on the scene assisting the Grand Rapids Police units, while A.M.R Ambulance transported the body.
