HOT SULPHUR SPRINGS, Colo. — A Montcalm County man was shot and killed after an altercation in Grand County, Colo., Monday night.
Investigators believe Joshua Stevens, 32, of Coral, Mich., was looking for work in the area and that he had been there for about a week.
The shooting happened outside the home of a deputy district attorney and a sheriff’s deputy.
“A woman placed a 911 call to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office reporting a stranger at her front door behaving very erratically and causing a disturbance,” said a statement from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Apparently, the frantic call came from a deputy district attorney in the 14th Judicial District, where her husband is also a sheriff’s deputy.
Neighbors in Hot Sulphur Springs identified the couple as Heather Stein and Lt. John Stein.
Both the deputy DA and the sheriff’s deputy are on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
