CROCKERY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An overnight fire forced residents to leave their apartments early Monday morning.

The first calls came in at 3:35 a.m. for a fire at the Country Villa Apartments at 17546 144th Avenue in Ottawa County northeast of Spring Lake.

Dispatchers said three departments responded. Fire crews encountered flames coming out of a unit in the back, according to Deputy Fire Chief John Krieger of the Crockery Township Fire Department.

Everyone was safely out of the apartments by the time crews had arrived, said Krieger.
