LANSING, Mich. – Young drivers will no longer be allowed to pick up the phone while behind the wheel.  Kelsey’s Law has took effect Thursday.

The law is named after a 17-year-old Michigan girl who died in a cell phone-related car crash.  Her mother has pushed for the new restrictions to help keep teens safe.

If young drivers have a level one or level two license — which normally apply to the first two years behind the wheel — cell phones are not allowed.  However, hands-free phone use is still permitted.
