GREENVILLE, Mich. — A two year old girl is listed in critical condition at Helen Devos Children’s Hospital.
The Greenville Department of Public Safety says the child suffered a closed head injury Sunday night. They’re trying to determine if the child was abused.
The incident happened on the 300 block of West Grove Street.
The public safety director wouldn’t say how the injury occurred. That’s just a part of this on-going investigation.
FOX 17 learned the child was first taken to a local hospital near Greenville, but the injuries were so severe, she had to be flown to Devos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids for further treatment.
The two year old was in the care of her mother and live-in boyfriend when this happened.
First responders say the child was suffering from critical injuries when they arrived.
The Department of Human Services is also assisting in the investigation.
“We`re interviewing the people that were there, family members and such and right now it`s still in the active investigative state,” Michael Pousak, the public safety director said.
“I will let you know that it`s serious… as we`d investigate any injured child. I would say, given the critical status of this, this is going to be an involved, in-depth, detailed investigation,” Pousak added.
Public safety said the family is cooperating. We stopped by the home to get answers ourselves.
FOX 17 spoke with a woman who lives there. She said she wasn’t home at the time and did not want to comment.
However, her family has been questioned.
She said she’s been praying hard since Sunday night and hopes that everyone else is doing the same for the child.
FOX 17 will bring the updates on this case as we get them.
