AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Both Michigan State and Michigan gave their fans something to go home happy about today, and there were plenty of fans and they didn’t have to go far to get back home.
Michigan State defeated Valparaiso 65-54 in the Midwest Region of the NCAA tournament at the Palace. Michigan then defeated South Dakota State 71-56 in the South Region to advance to the third round. Both teams were playing at the Palace of Auburn Hills which isn’t far from either school’s campus or fan bases and many of the fans took advantage.
Many Spartan fans filled the seats at the Palace for the first session. Even more Michigan fans filled them in the second session. Of course a big reason for that was because Michigan State played the first game of the day starting at 12:15 p.m. Michigan had a much more spectator-friendly start time of 7:15 p.m.
Both teams advanced to the third round which will take place Saturday at the Palace.
