GOBLES, Mich. — Van Buren Sheriff Dale R. Gribler says Deputies were dispatched to a home located at 108 North State Street to a report of a grenade found in an unattached garage. Apparently, the renters of the home, were in the process of cleaning it out for new renters when they came across an old brown paper bag in the garage that appeared to have a grenade in it. When Deputies examined it, it was in fact an old WWII pineapple style hand grenade, still with it’s safety pin in it, but it hadn’t been hollowed out. In the same bag was an old CO2 cartridge that had been modified. It was packed with some type of powder, it’s top sealed and had a wick coming out of the top. The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad was called and secured the area. Both items were were transported to their disposal facility to be destroyed. The tenants, who had just moved out, had rented the home for the past 20 years. They had no idea when, or how the grenade and modified cartridge made their way into their garage. Van Buren Co. Sheriff’s Department, The Michigan State Police and the Pine-Grove Fire Department have all left the scene and say everyone safe from any explosions.
