LANSING, Mich — People around mid-Michigan who were hit hard by winter flooding can get some extra assistance from the government.
Because of severe flooding and ice jams in late January and early February, Governor Rick Snyder approved a disaster declaration for seven counties:
- Mecosta
- Clare
- Isabella
- Lake
- Montcalm
- Newaygo
- Osceola
Following his declaration, the U.S. Small Business Association approved his request, making low-interest disaster loans available.
“The availability of these loans will bring some relief to those working to recover and rebuild,” Snyder said in a media release.
You can use the loan to repair or replace real estate, personal property, machinery and equipment, inventory and business assets that have been damaged or destroyed. It applies to uninsured losses, and homeowners, renters, businesses and nonprofit organizations can take them out.
Loan applications will be available online as well as by mail, and at a temporary disaster recovery center which will open soon.
