Military Night at Davenport to Honor Fallen West Michigan Navy SEAL

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Davenport University will hold its first Military Night tomorrow at its hockey game against Hope College.

A reception will be held before the game for current and former members of the military and their families. A pregame ceremony is also planned to honor military members in attendance as well as former Navy SEAL and West Michigan native, David Warsen, who was killed in Afghanistan in the summer of 2012.

Warsen’s family has a close connection to Davenport University. Warsen was a friend of the head coach for women’s soccer at Davenport and his brother played Division II and III hockey at the university.

The reception begins at 7 p.m. and the game is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. at Patterson Ice Center.

Because the school is honoring all who have served in the armed forces before the game, members of the military are encouraged to attend dressed in uniform or fatigues.
