PORTAGE, Mich. – The Portage Department of Public Safety is investigating a home explosion that happened just after midnight Monday morning at 514 West Van Hoesen.
Officers were dispatched to Wendy’s on South Westnedge Avenue at Van Hoesen Street after a report of a man who walked up with burns on his hands. A few minutes later, a resident called to report an explosion.
Officers found the front porch wall of the home had been blown off and the windows blown out. No one was located at the home, but the witness said they saw several people leaving the home on foot after the explosion. A neighbor was evacuated until it was safe to return.
The suspect who went to Wendy’s with the burnt hands was transported by ambulance to the hospital. A search warrant was served on the residence, and meth making components were located inside the home.
