IONIA COUNTY, Mich. – Police are investigating an accident where a driver was killed when she left the roadway and smashed into a tree.
May Marek, 85, from Crystal, Mich., was driving a 2005 Ford southbound on Hayes Road when she left the road and struck a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the vehicle, Betty Miller, 63, from Ionia, was transported to the Ionia Sparrow Hospital in Ionia.
The crash happened just a half mile south of Hogan Road in North Plains Township.
The extent of Miller’s injuries is unknown.
Both Marek and Miller were wearing their seatbelts.
