MIAMI — The Crimson Tide just keep on rolling. They are just minutes away from their third national title in four seasons.
Alabama led Notre Dame 14-0 after the first 15 minutes and then tacked on two more touchdowns in the second quarter to lead 28-0 at the half. Alabama has scored on four of its six drives in the game.
The Crimson Tide were truly dominant in the first quarter. Alabama had racked up 202 yards of total offense to Notre Dame’s 23 yards. At the end of the first half, Alabama had outgained Notre Dame 309-124.
Nick Saban’s team also dominated Brian Kelly’s squad in time of possession. Alabama had the ball for 19:46 compared to 10:14 for Notre Dame.
It was 35-0 Alabama before Notre Dame finally got on the board with a two-yard scamper by Everett Golson in the third quarter to give the Fighting Irish their only score of the game. Alabama would tack on another score early in the fourth quarter to make it 42-7.
