Driver Falls Asleep and Crashes Vehicle

 PORTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. –  One person was injured after a traffic crash Saturday night.

It happened on US 12 near Vera Drive just before 8:00 p.m.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department said the driver, Ginnie Wallace, 40, of Three Rivers, fell asleep and crashed into a pole and a generator.

Police said her two children were passengers in the vehicle.

Wallace was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

The 7-year-old and 9-year-old passengers were treated on scene and released to family members.

The children were not hurt, police added.

Police also said alcohol was not a factor in the crash and seatbelts were used.
