BELMONT, Mich. – Wednesday afternoon Cannonsburg Ski Area opened for the season, a month and four days past their normal opening day.
It took several days and 5 million gallons of water to get the hill ready for opening day.
When Andrew Koning heard Canaonsburg was opening for the season, he knew he wanted to be on the first chair lift up.
“I come to Cannonsburg a lot, I have a season pass here,” Andrew Koning said.
This is the latest the area has opened since the 90’s. Last year, they opened on Dec. 10th.
“We usually like to open Thanksgiving weekend, but we’ll take what we can get. Mother Nature finally gave us the temperatures we needed and we ran with it,” Alycia Choroszucha, with Cannonsburg Ski Area said.
The park also debuted a new terrain park, where skiers and snowboarders use rails and boxes to practice some cool tricks.
“I was just super stoked to get out here. They got a great team working on the terrain park. They always keep it clean and great,” Selles said.
Cannonsburg isn’t the only ski area to open. Bittersweet Ski Resort and Caberfae Peaks Ski Resort are both open and ready for business.
