KENTWOOD, Mich — Former Detroit Red Wings player Chris Chelios will pay it forward on Tuesday with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Chelios will join some Griffins to ring the bells for the Salvation Army from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kentwood Family Fare located at 6127 Kalamazoo Avenue SE.

The volunteers are ringing the bells in hourlong shifts, and since there are two red kettles, it’s going to make for a friendly competition.

From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Chelios will join Griffins head coach Jeff Blashill to face off against Griffins assistant coach Jim Paek and analytics and advance scouting coach Spiros Anastas.

Then from 3 until 4, Griffins forward Landon Ferraro will try to out-raise defenseman Brian Lashoff. The final hour, from 4 to 5, will feature Griffins forward Mitch Callahan against goalie Tom McCollum.

Chelios, a three-time Stanley Cup Champion, is retired from playing hockey, but currently an adviser for the Red Wings.
