Less than 24 hours after his wife gave birth to their first daughter, P.J. Fleck was named the next head football coach at Western Michigan University.

Fleck, 32,  was introduced at a 3 p.m. press conference on Tuesday after he and his wife Tracie  welcomed a daughter, Paisley, late Monday night.

WMU’s hiring of Fleck makes him the youngest head coach in major college football in a program that has seen its ups and downs.  Western Michigan went 4-8 last season and 2-6 in the MAC.

“I’ve always loved the underdog role,” Fleck said at Tuesday’s press conference. “We’re always gonna play that role at Western Michigan.”

The Northern Illinois grad previously served as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receivers coach.
