FOX 17 is West Michigan's home for the Detroit Lions 2026 preseason. All three games ahead of the NFL season will air on FOX 17.

Game 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals is set for Thursday, August 13. Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.

Game 2 against the Washington Commanders will be Saturday, August 22. Coverage will start at 11:30 a.m. with kickoff at noon. The LIV Golf Individual Championship from Indianapolis will be available to watch on The Spot Grand Rapids during the Lions game.

Game 3 against the Indianapolis Colts will come a week later on Saturday, August 29. Coverage is set for 12:30 p.m. with a 1 p.m. kickoff. The IndyCar Snap-On Makers and Fixers 250 will be carried on The Spot Grand Rapids during the Lions game.

Replays of all three preseason games will be available on the Sunday after the game.

Day two of training camp is now in the books for the Detroit Lions and head coach Dan Campbell feels very confident about the direction the team is heading despite injuries and the fact that running back Jahmyr Gibbs is still on the sideline.

Jahmyr is my dog. I miss him out here. I think he'll be out here hopefully sooner rather than later, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown said.

One of the most notable absences as training camp begins is Gibbs, who is sitting out of practice hoping to negotiate a new long-term contract with the Lions.

He's still in the building. He's still at all the meetings and everything. I think that the players understand what's going on. Everyone kind of gets it. It's part of this business, St. Brown said.

Campbell is not worried about the status of Gibbs heading into the season, but he wasn't expecting a holdout to start camp.

I've been in this league a long time, a player and a coach, so I know how it goes. So I'm not even sweating it, Campbell said. I thought we'd have been done by now, but I know how this goes.

Gibbs' absence gives more reps to new running back Isiah Pacheco and Sione Vaki, who is also seen working on routes. On defense, Aiden Hutchinson is preparing for his second season following a serious leg injury. 

I feel like a new person physically, mentally. I think I feel like there was a lot looming last year going into the season. And man, it just feels good like everything's settled and I can really just focus on football, Hutchinson said.

Injuries are still impacting the defense with both starting safeties sidelined. Brian Branch is recovering from a torn Achilles from the end of last season, and Kerby Joseph is still working through a chronic knee injury with a return date unknown.

Im super optimistic, man. I never gave up. I never I'm gonna always work hard. God's gonna work it out. Gods got the timeline. Whenever God wants me out there, I'm gonna be out there, Johnson said.

We asked linebacker Derrick Barnes about Branch and Johnson.

First of all, those two are thunder and lightning, man. It'd be nice to have both of those guys back but obviously, that's not the case right now, so other guys will pick up that slack, Barnes said.

The first day for fans to attend training camp in Allen Park is Sunday.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs reported to training camp but was not on the field with teammates for their first practice on Wednesday as his agent and the franchise work on negotiating a new deal.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said he did not have an update on talks.

You guys know how we feel about Gibbs, Campbell said.

A message seeking comment was left with Gibbs' agent, Todd France.

This is both sides working through something, Campbell said.

The Lions have signed many of their top players to contract extensions, including linebacker Jack Campbell in May.

Gibbs, who has been a Pro Bowl player in each of his first three NFL seasons, seems to be next in line.

His contract calls for him to make a little more than $1 million in base salary with a $2 million-plus roster bonus this season. The Lions picked up the fifth season of Gibbs' contract in April and he is scheduled to make $14.29 million in 2027.

Since Detroit drafted the former Alabama star at No. 12 overall in 2023, he has run for 3,580 yards with 39 touchdowns and has 181 receptions for 1,449 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Gibbs is the one of four players in league history to gain at least 4,500 yards from scrimmage and score 45-plus touchdowns through three seasons, joining Hall of Famers Earl Campbell, Eric Dickerson and Barry Sanders, a former Lions star.

Penei Sewell has long been known as perhaps the top run-blocking tackle in the NFL. Once his work in pass protection took a step up, he moved himself into a different category.

The improvement in pass protection by Sewell last season, when he was named an All-Pro for the third straight season, helped him earn the honors as the top tackle in the NFL by The Associated Press.

A panel of eight AP Pro Football Writers ranked the top five players at tackle, basing selections on current status entering the 2026 season. First-place votes were worth 10 points. Second- through fifth-place votes were worth 5, 3, 2 and 1 points.

Sewell got three first-place votes and won the voting with 55 points. Tampa Bay's Tristan Wirfs got three first-place votes and finished second with 44 points. Denver's Garett Bolles got the other two first-place votes and came in third with 28 points. San Francisco's Trent Williams was fourth and Philadelphia's Jordan Mailata was fifth.

Philadelphia's Lane Johnson, Washington's Laremy Tunsil, the Chargers' Rashawn Slater, the Giants' Andrew Thomas and Chicago's Darnell Wright also received votes.

1. Penei Sewell, Detroit Lions

Sewell allowed pressure on just 3.3% of pass plays last season, according to Pro FootballFocus, to rank second among right tackles and fifth among all tackles. He was also the game's top run blocker at tackle as a key part of the running game for the Lions. Sewell's strong overall play helped him win the award as the top protector in the league last season from PFF.

After spending most of his first five seasons playing on the right side, Sewell will return to his college spot at left tackle this season as Detroit wants him protecting Jared Goff's blindside.

2. Tristan Wirfs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Wirfs made the switch from right side to left side in 2023 and became the first player to be an All-Pro at both spots since the AP began separating the positions in 2016.

Wirfs has excelled at both run and pass blocking over his career and has made the Pro Bowl in five straight seasons. He missed the start of last season recovering from a knee injury but quickly got back to his usual form.

3. Garett Bolles, Denver Broncos

Bolles entered the NFL as a first-round pick in 2017 and took a little time to develop into a top tackle. But Bolles has been the anchor of one of the top offensive lines the past few years in Denver and earned All-Pro honors for the first time in 2025.

Bolles allowed no sacks and only 19 pressures during the 2025 regular season, according to PFF.

4. Trent Williams, San Francisco 49ers

Williams still performed at a high level last season at age 37 as he bounced back from an injury-plagued 2024 to help San Francisco get back to the playoffs. Williams is coming off his 12th Pro Bowl season the most for any offensive tackle and is two shy of tying Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews' record for an offensive lineman.

Williams made three straight All-Pro teams from 2021-23 before the injuries limited him to 10 games in 2024. He was healthy for most of last season, playing 16 games for the first time since 2013 when he once again was a dominant run blocker.

His pass blocking dropped off a bit with his 40 pressures allowed the most since his rookie season with Washington in 2010, according to PFF, but he remains a top player at his position.

5. Jordan Mailata, Philadelphia Eagles

Mailata is one of the best development stories in the modern NFL. The former Australian rugby star had never played American football before the Eagles drafted him in the seventh round in 2018. Under offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland's guidance, he's become one of the best in the game.

Mailata earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2024 and has been a steadying force on one of the more consistent lines in the NFL.

The Detroit Lions have released their training camp schedule, with five practices available to the public to see.

The schedule is below in full, with days in italics only available for Lions season ticket holders:

Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver Kendrick Law is out for the season with a torn knee ligament.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said Thursday before an offseason workout that Law was injured earlier in the week.

Detroit drafted Law in the fifth round out of Kentucky, hoping he would add depth on special teams and at receiver behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Isaac TeSlaa.

Law, who returned kickoffs and punts in college, had 53 catches for 540 yards with three touchdowns for the Wildcats last year. He played sparingly the previous three seasons at Alabama.

The Detroit Lions announced that they have signed linebacker Jack Campbell to a contract extension through 2030.

The 25-year-old linebacker is coming off his best season in 2025, where he had 176 tackles  89 solo and 87 assisted plus five sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

"This is Jack Campbell's defense, and I don't hesitate when I say that," defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard said at the NFL Scouting Combine, according to DetroitLions.com. "This is Jack Campbell's defense and everyone in that locker room knows it. Point blank period. It all goes through Jack."

We've known that the Detroit Lions will be playing in Germany in 2026 since this winter, but now we know who the Lions will play.

The Lions are set to face off against the New England Patriots in Week 10 on Sunday, Nov. 15. The game is set to kick-off at 9:30 a.m. EST.

The international game is the second confirmed game on the Lions schedule for 2026. Detroit will visit Buffalo in the Bills' first game in their new stadium. The week two game will kick off on Thursday, September 17.

With the 17th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions selected Clemson offensive lineman Blake Miller.

Miller appeared in 54 games with the Tigers over the last four seasons, including 13 games this past season. Per NFL Network, he's the first Clemson tackle to ever be drafted in the first round.

Listed at 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, Miller was a four-year starter at Clemson and was named a First-Team All-ACC player twice.

Among 632 qualified tackles on Pro Football Focus, Miller ranked 34th in overall grade (76.8), 33rd in pass blocking grade (81.6) and 60th in run blocking grade (72.4).

The Lions are looking to replace one of their mainstays on the offensive line; after being drafted in 2016 and playing with the team for a decade, tackle Taylor Decker was released by the Lions earlier this spring. Earlier this off-season, Detroit added tackle Larry Borom, a Brother Rice alum and five-year veteran who last played with the Miami Dolphins.

This is the first time the Lions have used a first round pick on an offensive lineman since general manager Brad Holmes selected Penei Sewell with his first draft pick as the Lions general manager in 2021 (No. 7 overall).

The Detroit Lions are signing free agent running back Isiah Pacheco, according to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Pelissero later reported that it's a one-year, $1.81 million fully guaranteed deal.

Pacheco comes to the Lions after spending his first four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. Over those four seasons, the former seventh-round pick appeared in 51 games and rushed for 2,537 yards and 14 touchdowns. Last season, he rushed for 462 yards on 118 attempts (3.9 yards per carry) to go along with a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown.

This comes after the Lions traded David Montgomery to the Houston Texans last week, receiving a fourth-round pick, a seventh-round pick, and OL Juice Scruggs.

The Lions have prioritized the run game over the last few days, as the team is reportedly signing center Cade Mays from the Carolina Panthers and offensive lineman Larry Borom from the Miami Dolphins.

For the first time in over a decade, the Detroit Lions will be playing an international game this season, with the National Football League announcing that the Lions will be one of the teams participating in the 2026 NFL Munich Game.

The Lions are slated to be the home team for the game. The opponent and date of the matchup will be announced at a later date.

The Detroit Lions announced today that they have "parted ways" with Offensive Coordinator John Morton.

The move was announced on social media.

Morton was with the team for just one season, hired to replace Ben Johnson after he left to become the Head Coach of the Chicago Bears. He was relieved of his play-calling duties in November when Lions' Head Coach Dan Campbell took over.

Under Morton, the Lions ranked 5th in average yards per game with 373.2.
