Michigan sees 796 new COVID-19 cases, 7 more deaths

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 88,756.

The number of cases increased 796 from yesterday, when there were 87,960 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 722 new cases.

The state says there have been 6,264 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 7 from yesterday, when there were 6,257
statewide deaths. That includes 2 deaths identified during a vital records review. Yesterday, the state reported 8 new deaths.

Statewide, 60,022 people have recovered from the virus as of July 31. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 5,166,791 cases, and there have been 164,137 deaths — while 1,598,624 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
