KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- A fire left one person dead overnight, says the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. The house is at the corner of N. Rose Street and W. Hopkins Street.

Calls on the fire first went out just before 11 p.m. Monday.

When the fire broke out, two people were in the house at the time, said KDPS. The person who didn't make it out was a 60-year-old man. The other person escaped.

Fire crews first tried to attack the fire inside the home, but flames were too intense, and they had to stay outside. It took them about an hour to control the fire.
