KALAMAZOO, Mich. – An 18-year old Kalamazoo resident is in custody and a second person is being sought after a shooting at an apparent drug deal Wednesday afternoon.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers were called to the 600 block of Portage Road at about 3:45pm Wednesday on reports of a shooting. There, they found a 27-year-old Kalamazoo man with gunshot wounds. He was able to tell police that he was at the scene to sell marijuana when he was shot. He was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
Officers found an 18-year-old near the scene who matched the description the victim had given police. He was taken into custody and a K-9 unit found a gun nearby. He is being held on drug and weapons charges.
Investigators are looking for a second suspect in the shooting. He has been identified as Jamar Jawon Jackson, 26, and is considered to be armed. Police say two guns were used in the shooting and only one has been recovered. Jackson is said to have relatives in the Indianapolis area, as well as in Kalamazoo.
