FENNVILLE, Mich. — Family and friends gathered at Sheryl Keech's house in Fennville on Saturday to spend the day sprucing it up.

Keech was allegedly attacked by her now ex-boyfriend inside her home in March. Police say he destroyed the home's interior—physically attacking her when she arrived—pouring acid on her face and chest.

Keech was seriously injured with severe burns. Her son-in-law, Jason Stough, says she's now doing much better. Stough said because the neighbors reacted quickly and put Keech in the shower, she will have limited scarring and facial damage in the future.

Aside from the doctors' appointments and daily medications helping her heal physically, Keech has had her friends and family by her side for emotional support. Stough says she's currently living with her sisters in metro Detroit, but relatives wanted to spruce up her house to give her a nice surprise when she eventually returns home.

Stough said they plan to make repairs, clean and paint each room a bright, spontaneous color.

Stough said Keech had applied for disability because she's now legally blind, but that claim was denied, making this entire experience even more difficult financially.

The family says while things are improving every day, there's still a long road ahead, adding that they can use all the help they can get. You can donate to the Sheryl Keech fund here.
