Gone Fishing: Get ready for the season

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - "Gone Fishing" is back for the summer on FOX 17.  This summer, Ty Shesky will be joining the experts at Al & Bob's Sports to help you in your quest to land some big fish.

Bass Season opens this weekend and Scott DeVries of Al & Bob's says that your fishing line may not be usable this spring, even if it has been stored all winter.  He recommends changing your line once a year or more often if you fish a lot.

He also recommends going through your tackle box and throwing away rusty hooks or anything else that has collected rust.

And, of course, get your 2016 fishing license.  It is good until March 2017.

Al & Bob's are once again offering weekly prizes for the best fishing photos of the season.  The week runs from Tuesday to Tuesday and the winners will be announced on Friday.  The size of the fish matters, but the quality of the picture is also important.

There is an adult prize and a youth prize.  The grand prize for adults is a four-hour fishing adventure with Thunder Duck Charters of Grand Haven.  The grand prize for youth is a $150 fishing equipment package.  The contest runs through July 5.

The winners for week one were Brian Keeley and Ryan Leavitt.
