2 firefighters injured in New Year’s Eve mobile home blaze

PORTAGE, Mich. — Two firefighters are recovering today after they were injured putting out a mobile home fire Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters with the Portage Department of Public Safety responded Thursday just after 3:40 p.m. to a mobile home that was on fire in the 4300 block of Duchess.

As emergency crews were initially arriving on scene, there was a report that there may be a person stuck inside the burning residence.

The fire was heavily-involved when the first firefighters arrived on scene.  They were able to get inside the home and search it to make sure that nobody was in fact inside.  Nobody was found to be inside.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 20 minutes.

In the process of putting out the fire, two firefighter were injured.  One was treated for their injuries on scene, while the other was taken to a local hospital.  They were released from the hospital shortly after.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
