WALKER, Mich. – The Chief of Police for the city of Walker announced her retirement Wednesday morning.
Catherine Garcia-Lindstrom will be retiring from her post as of February 1, 2016. She has agreed to remain as a consultant to the new police chief and fire chief through 2016 as needed.
According to the city, Garcia-Lindstrom has been employed by Walker since 2000. Before coming to Walker, she was a 25-year veteran of the Detroit Police Department, rising to the rank of Commander.
Mayor Mark Huizenga noted Garcia-Lindstrom’s accomplishments of working with area chiefs on creating mutual aid agreements, initiating a Chaplaincy to help officers who have to make death notifications and assistance in counseling for officers. She also updated the city’s fire insurance classification, which helped residents lower their property insurance rates.
