BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The Battle Creek Board of Education voted Monday night to postpone the possible closure of two of the district’s elementary schools.
The board voted to delay voting on closing two of the district’s nine elementary schools — Coburn Elementary and LaMora Park Elementary. Board members voted 6-1 to wait and make a decision at a later time.
The school board now plans to vote May 18 on whether the schools should remain open.
Until then, board members will meet with city, county and community members to gather more information so they can make an informed decision during their next meeting.
