GRANDVILLE, Mich. -- It's a book series unlike anything else that's been on the market. With the release of the movie Fifty Shades of Grey this week, adult novelty stores are busy with fans of the series looking to buy items featured in the novels.

The popular trilogy shines light on an area of erotica typically not spoken about in the mainstream.

Fans of the books anticipating the movie's release continue to fill adult stores, including Nice and Naughty in Grandville, where owner Mike Nafsou said the story line is sparking a lot of curiosity. Adult novelties featured in the book series are already a must have for fans and customers alike.

"Couples are asking more questions. People are definitely getting more intrigued," Nafsou said. "They are looking at the whips, they are looking at bed restraints, they are looking at all these things, whatever is mentioned in the book and beyond, because a lot of people have done the research before they even come in here."

"They see the red walls in here, and they mention the red room."

Because of the success of the books, not only are fans learning about a specific erotic behaviors, but promoting an open mind is something that can help improve relationships, Nafsou said. "It's a big part of a relationship. It's not everything in the relationship, but it's a big part of it."

Most first-time customers are nervous stepping into an adult store, Nafsou said, but after they learn more about the products, they feel more at ease.

"For a lot of people, it's a lifestyle. So, you have to respect it, and we definitely respect it."

Nafsou said that they expect to have even more interest in Nice and Naughty's specialty products once the film is released in theaters.
