Camper stolen from driveway near South Haven

Posted

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a camping trailer that was stolen from a Geneva Township driveway at midday Friday.

Friday afternoon, deputies responded to a report of a stolen camper in the 5000 block of 68th Street. The caller left around 10 a.m. and returned home around noon when he noticed that his neighbor’s camper was gone. The camper is usually parked in the driveway in front of the neighbor’s house.

The caller called his neighbor, who was out of town at the time, and asked if the camper had been sold or picked up for any reason. The owner/victim advised that it was not and to report it stolen. The neighbor then contacted the sheriff’s office.

Two deputies made contact with the caller and the victim. During the course of the investigation it was determined that there were at least two suspects. It appeared they pulled into the victim’s driveway and simply hooked up to the camper to their four-wheel-drive vehicle and pulled the camper away southbound on 68th Street.

The area was checked and the camper has yet to be located.

The stolen camping trailer is a 1998 Jayco Eagle Lite 3800 and is 24 feet in length. It resembles the one shown in the accompanying picture.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating the camper so that it may be returned to the owner. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office.
