‘I hope you can pick me’ — Finding a forever home for Harley

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Hundreds of children in Michigan are left without a family to call their own.
It's an especially difficult time of year for those youth, with the holiday season quickly approaching.

FOX 17 toured Meijer Gardens 'Christmas and Holiday Traditions Around the World' exhibition with 15-year-old Harley - a bittersweet reminder of the holiday traditions he won`t experience this year without a family.

Harley’s mother died a year and a half ago and he’s been in the foster system ever since.
He knows what's it's like to spend Christmas alone - but is hoping he doesn't have to in the future.

He says he dreams of presents on Christmas morning - though the real gift he wants won’t be found under the tree.

"A family who cares and loves people," he says.

The outdoor enthusiast - who likes football, fishing, and hunting - says he'll fit in easily with any family; he just needs someone to give him a chance and welcome him in to their home.

Harley loves being creative whether it’s woodworking or drawing. His favorite subjects in school are math and science.

"I’m loveable and I'm helpful," he says.

Harley would love a family with a dog - he loves puppies and labs.

And just as long as prospective parents love and care about him, this easy-going teen says he'll be happy.

But when asked what he dreams of in a perfect family, Harley admits there's one requirement.
"Go fishing," he says.

The yearning for someone willing to take the time to show him he is good enough - and that he deserves to do something so simple.

"I hope you can pick me," he says.
