DETROIT, Mich. -- It was a celebratory mood at the MGM Grand in Detroit at the democrat headquarters with the crowd celebrating the win of Gary Peters to the U.S. Senate.
Peters will be replacing long time Senator Carl Levin who is retiring. Senator Levin spoke after Peters’ win, calling it his most proud moment of the night.
Gary Peters got on the stage, thanking his family and campaign supporters who have helped him across the state for the past year and a half.
Peters also spoke about his key issue; being an advocate for affordable healthcare and helping the middle class make a higher wage.
President Obama was in Detroit on Saturday, asking for support for both Mark Schauer and Peters.
Peters also spoke about being outspent in his campaign.
"We had an awful lot of money spent against us. I think over $20 million dollars of ads that were spend against us. You know those ads, most of them, actually they all were negative ads. They didn't let the truth get in the way. What they said in those ads, they were debunked by every fact checker out there,” said Peters.
