GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (June 26, 2014) — In a last-minute cooperative arrangement, the Michigan Department of Transportation will close all ramps in the interchange of M-6 at Kalamazoo Avenue.
The ramps will close Wednesday night at 1 a.m. and will remain closed until the work is done, which should be sometime Friday afternoon, June 27, said John Richard of MDOT.
The Kent County Road Commission is working on resurfacing Kalamazoo Avenue at M-6, and it made sense to resurface the ramps at the same time, said Richard.
The announcement of the closures was last-minute due to complications in bringing together the companies doing the work.
The detours require miles of additional driving, given the great distances between exits on M-6. To access locations west of the interchange, you will have to get onto 68th Street south of the interchange at M-6 and US-131. East of Kalamazoo Avenue, the first exit is at M-37 Broadmoor Avenue.
