SCHOOLCRAFT, Mich. (May 24, 2014) – The 2014 EZ Memorial Ride kicks off Saturday in honor of fallen Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officer Eric Zapata, who was killed in the line of duty April 2011 after serving the Kalamazoo community for 10 years.

The Sons of Malta partnered with DC Strong Cancer Charity for children battling cancer to organize the annual event, located at the Olde Mill Golf Course in Schoolcraft (6101 West XY Avenue). Organizers said it’s an all-day, carnival type of event that includes a golf benefit, games, concerts and a pig roast. The event runs from 8 A.M to about 11 P.M. Saturday. Registration for the golf benefit opens at 7 A.M. Saturday, then registration for the motorcycle ride begins at 8 A.M at Olde Mill Golf Course.

Two sky divers will drop into the golf course to help kick off the all-day event, and the motorcycle ride begins at 10:30 A.M. organizers said. Also, this year there will be celebrity riders and appearances including MMA Legend Jeremy Horn and Shinedown, according to the event website.
