MUSKEGON, Mich. (Feb. 19, 2014) — Mercy Health Muskegon announced Wednesday that it is seeking approval for a $220 million medical center.

The center would an expansion on the current Mercy Campus at 1500 E. Sherman Boulevard in Muskegon.

The cost is more than double that of initial plans from spring 2013, when a $96.7 million expansion was proposed.

According to a release, the extra funding will go toward a “nine-story, state-of-the-art medical center to allow for greater efficiencies and better patient care.”

The local board of trustees must approve the project as well as the Michigan Department of Health’s certificate of need commission and the CHE Trinity Health board, Mercy Health’s parent based in Livonia.

Mercy Health anticipates that those approvals will be complete by fall of this year.
