UPDATE: Detectives with the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office were able to identify the suspicious woman in this investigation, determining this was not a case of an attempted abduction, rather a miscommunication by the adults involved. Detectives determined the children were never in any danger.
REYNOLDS TOWNSHIP, Mich (February 12, 2014) – Detectives with the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate a suspicious incident that happened at a daycare in Reynolds Township on Monday, urging parents to assess safety procedures at the daycare they use.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, a woman showed up to a daycare attempting to pick up children who were there, asking for the children by name. A family member had already picked the children up earlier in the day. Daycare workers contacted the parents of the children regarding the incident, who hadn’t authorized any other person to pick up their children. The parents then contacted the Sheriff’s Department.
The female involved is described as a short, heavy-set woman in her late 20’s or early 30’s with blonde, ear length hair on the sides and short in the back. She was driving a red vehicle believed to be a 2006 or 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche.
The children she was looking for were not harmed, and never had contact with the suspicious woman who tried to pick them up.
Local schools were also notified of the incident. Detectives are asking anyone who may have information regarding this incident or recognize the description of the suspect female to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 989-831-7590
