BYRON CENTER, Mich. — One West Michigan family is especially thankful to be together this Thanksgiving.

Captain Joshua Munsee surprised his wife and three kids during the Detroit Lions game on Sunday by coming home early from his tour in Afghanistan.

Thursday, they could be found cheering on the Lions from the comfort of their family’s home.

Captain Munsee says he’s very thankful to be home with his family this Thanksgiving.

Munsee’s wife, Michelle, says everyday with him feels like a surprise all over again.

“There would be someone missing,” three-year-old Henry Munsee says of his dad’s expected absence this holiday.

For the Munsee family, Sunday’s surprise homecoming has served as a reminder of their sacrifice.

“It really drew attention to the fact that we still have service members deployed,” Michelle says.  “You know, they are still working and still serving and the Lions really honored that. We really appreciated that.”

The Munsee family says they’re excited to get ready for Christmas together as a family and finally unwind after this exciting week.

Captain Munsee hopes to be home for the next year.
