KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The M-43 bridge over U-S 131 is scheduled for renovation, and you can expect lane closures on US-131 as a result.
Most of the time, the lane closures will be restricted to nighttime hours, but there may be times when lane closures are needed during the day. The same for ramp closures, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
On the project’s first day, Monday, June 24, the first lane closure on US-131 will wait until that night. Work will commence to prepare for major work on the bridge which will cause lane closures on M-43 West Main Street.
Lane closures on M-43 West Main Street are expected to begin July 7.
Among the planned improvements is the addition of a pedestrian walkway on the south side of the bridge. Currently there is no place to walk safely on the bridge.
The $2 million project will continue until about November 2.
