PORTLAND, Mich. — The replacement of bridges over the Portland Trail will lead to the closure of a ramp on I-96 and various lane closures.
The bridges in question are just east of exit 77 on I-96 in Portland. They are being replaced by what is called a box culvert, which is more commonly used these days for trails and walkways under expressways. They require far less maintenance than bridges.
Drivers will first see the ramp from Grand River Avenue to eastbound I-96 close on Monday, April 15. It will remain closed through June 7, if the project stays on par with the Michigan Department of Transportation schedule.
Traffic will also be shifted to the westbound lanes through June 7, so expect eastbound slowdowns at peak times caused by the median crossover.
