VALLEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A West Michigan father is found dead in his Allegan County home and investigators are looking into the case as a homicide.
The body of Jody Snyder, 37, was found around 5:30 p.m. Saturday in a home on the 3900 block of 122nd Avenue in Valley Township.
Snyder’s landlord tells FOX 17 that Snyder had lived in the home for about three years with his teenage son. Curt Conley had just been over at the home on Friday helping Snyder with some manual labor.
Conley and his wife were awoken suddenly by Allegan County deputies hours after Snyder’s body was found.
“I was sitting in the chair there asleep,” Conley says. “(Deputies) come about 12 o’clock hammering on that door. I thought they were gonna tear it off the hinges.”
Investigators searched Conley’s home, considering him a suspect for a short period of time.
” They search my house, the dresser drawers, went out in the garage and searched and everything,” he says. “They were all over that basement and the garage and the house looking for a gun.”
Conley says Snyder was a great handyman, but had some strange streaks of behavior.
“You couldn’t ask for a nicer guy,” Conley says, “and then the next time you’d see him, he’d be goofy.”
The Michigan Department of Corrections has no record of criminal history from Snyder. The Allegan County Sheriff’s Department plans to release more information from their investigation sometime Monday.
