TAMPA BAY, Fla. — The University of Michigan was hoping to improve to 2-0 in the Brady Hoke bowl era, but instead the Wolverines fell to 1-1, after South Carolina won the Outback Bowl 33-28.

Dylan Thompson threw a touchdown pass to Bruce Ellington with 11 seconds in the game to give the Gamecocks the victory.

Michigan had blocked field goals and great defensive stops, but it wasn’t enough to put down the Gamecocks.  Senior Denard Robinson took some snaps at quarterback, but Devin Gardner did most of the work, connecting with Drew Dileo once and Jeremy Gallon twice on the day.

Gardner finishes 18-36 with 214 yards and three touchdowns.

Michigan finishes the season 8-5, while South Carolina ends the year 11-2.
