2012 The Warmest On Record In West Michigan

WEST MICHIGAN — (FOX 17) — According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, the year 2012 became the warmest year on record for parts of Lower Michigan, including Grand Rapids, Muskegon, and Lansing. Records date back to the late 19th century.

Here is a look at the annual average temperatures for all three cities and how they compare with the previous records.

GRAND RAPIDS

  1. 52.9 degrees (2012)
  2. 52.4 degrees (1921)
  3. 52.3 degrees (1931)

MUSKEGON

  1. 52.6 degrees (2012)
  2. 50.9 degrees (1998)
  3. 50.8 degrees (2010)

LANSING

  1. 51.7 degrees (2012)
  2. 50.6 degrees (1921)
  3. 50.3 degrees (1998)

There was only one month last year, October, in which the temperature averaged out below normal. It wasn’t by much though– just two-tenths of a degree. Further, March 2012 ended an incredible 15.1 degrees above normal and established a record for the warmest March ever.
