President Bush visited the Grand Rapids area Wednesday to discuss the economy over lunch with business leaders and to help raise money for the GOP.

He also surprised some diners at a restaurant.

Republican officials say the fundraiser at the Ada home of 2006 gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos raised $500,000 for congressional candidates in key races around the country.  They include Congressmen Tim Walberg of Tipton and Joe Knollenberg of Oakland County's Bloomfield Township, who are both in tough re-election battles.

Bush lunched privately with the business leaders at the Schnitz Deli and Ada Grill in downtown Ada, on his way to the fundraiser.

He shook hands with startled customers who stood and cheered his arrival.
