LOWELL - Soldiers are arriving from around the world to honor Sgt. Lucas Beachnaw of Lowell, who was killed last Wednesday in Afghanistan.

Family members of Beachnaw tell Fox 17 news there are more than thirty soldiers flying into West Michigan from Italy, California, and New Hampshire to honor their friend and fellow soldier.

Some of them have arrived already, including one of his good friends Sgt. Patrick O'Briant.

"Everyone that Luke met, he left a lasting impact on everybody," said Sgt. O'Briant after driving in from Fort Benning, Ga. "So, pretty much our entire platoon from Italy, no matter where they are right now, is coming."

Most of the soldiers are paying a lot of money and taking their own military leave time to attend the funeral service later this week. The family hasn't finalized the day or the details, but it will take place at Ada Bible Church.

Friends of the Beachnaw family have set up an account at Huntington Bank. All of the proceeds will go to help house and feed the soldiers while they're in West Michigan.

"I want these guys to feel welcome and hospitable, I want the best for them like I'd want the best for Luke," said family friend Mellissa Blattner.

Donations can be made at any Huntington Bank to the Sgt. Lucas Beachnaw Memorial Fund.

The family also asks instead of flowers, donations be made to the United Service Organizations or Freedom isn't Free.
