Deputy Matt Konkle was retrieving equipment from the trunk of his cruiser when a car hit him and the cruiser, pinning him between the cars.
The Van Buren County deputy had made a stop with his partner on a possible alcohol violation in the Village of Decatur. While Konkle was retrieving a preliminary breath test kit from the trunk, another vehicle slammed into the cruiser, pinning Konkle.
The officer suffered injuries to both legs and was transported to Bronson/Lakeview Hospital in Paw Paw.
The driver and passenger in the vehicle originally stopped were found not to be intoxicated, but the driver of the vehicle that hit Konkle has been charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
