ROCKFORD -
Vandalism or prank, Rockford's school superintendent says this is serious.
(See Mike Avery's video report on how crews got the buses running again by noon.)
The Rockford Public Schools bus system was disabled Monday morning by vandals.
So many buses were vandalized that all bus routes were canceled. Classes were kept open, but several schools besides the Rockford Public Schools were affected, as the district provides bus transportation to Assumption School of Belmont, Our Lady of Consolation School in Rockford, and Rockford Christian School.
Rockford Schools Superintendent Mike Schibler told FOX 17 News that at least one valve stem was removed from each bus, flattening the tires. He said the district was filing a police report and would proceed with criminal complaints if the vandals are caught.
Parents are advised to check the Rockford schools' web site for information on afternoon transportation.
