GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP - Close to two hundred people showed up tonight to sound off on a plan to build two different wind turbines that would be three hundred feet tall in Grand Haven Township.

The City of Grand Rapids is looking to build the structures just south of their water filtration plant in Grand Haven Township. They save it would save the city more than five hundred thousand dollars a year and possibly lower water rates for more than three hundred thousand customers from Grand Haven to Grand Rapids. Plus, they claim it will be better for the environment.

However, right now a turbine can only be built in the Township if it's less than one hundred and fifty feet tall. The City of Grand Rapids wants to build two structures that are twice that size.

Many homeowners in the area are against the plan. They worry what it will look like, what it will sound like, and that it could reduce their property values

The meeting Monday night is just an informational meeting, no action will be taken. The township board will begin to consider whether they should move forward with the plan at their next meeting, which is two weeks from tonight.
