GRAND RAPIDS—
The Kent County prosecutor has decided not to file charges in a series of incidents involving members of the West Catholic High School cross country team that led to the dismissal of the team's coach and cancellation of the cross country season for the school."I do not feel that the criminal justice system is the appropriate venue to address these matters," Prosecutor William A. Forsyth said in a statement.

The Grand Rapids Police Department first received complaints in December 2009 about incidents that took place during the fall cross country season between August and October. The incidents reported included a variety of actions by varsity athletes, from grabbing of genitals to "five starring," which is slapping on the back or buttocks hard enough to leave a hand print.
The one injury reported was a bloody nose.
The prosecutor noted that the school had already taken actions in response to the reports and said "any punishment is best left to the administration of West Catholic High School.
